Dr. Mark Evered: President Emeritus & Vice-Chancellor (retired), University of the Fraser Valley
Mark holds a B.Sc. in biology (McMaster University) and a Ph.D. in medical physiology (University of Western Ontario). He has held teaching, research and administrative positions at universities in three provinces and three countries, including Cambridge University (as a Fellow of the Canadian Medical Research Council), the University of Western Ontario, the University of Saskatchewan, the Howard Florey Research Institute of the University of Melbourne, and Thompson Rivers University. He served as the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Fraser Valley from 2009 to 2017.
Dr. Evered has won a number of teaching awards for his work with undergraduate and post- graduate students in science, medicine and other health science disciplines, and he has supervised the training of a number of M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. His and his students’ research in neurophysiology, body fluids and cardiovascular regulation has been published in national and international journals, including Science and Nature, and presented at numerous conferences and symposia world-wide.
Dr. Evered is past chair of the British Columbia Association of Institutes and Universities. He also served for 7 years on the Governance Committee of Universities Canada. Other professional service includes terms as chair of the Canadian Council on Animal Care (Canada’s national animal research ethics body); as chair of the Admissions and Student Affairs Committee of the Association of Canadian Medical Colleges; as vice-chair of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan as well as its board vice-chair and chair of its Research Advisory Committee; and service on many other university, community and government committees, boards and panels on research, education, economic, and community development. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Abbotsford Division of Family Practice and the Chilliwack Arts and Cultural Centre Society.
In addition to various teaching awards, Mark has received the Paul Harris Fellowship from the Rotary Club of Abbotsford, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, and an Honorary Presidency from Xi’an Fanyi University, Shaanxi Provence, China. At his retirement, the Board of Governors awarded him President Emeritus; the UFV Student Union Society named its Great Hall after Dr. Evered and his wife Maureen; and the Stó:lō people of the Fraser Valley honoured him with a Halqemeylem name, Al’aliyatel.

Gavin Dew is the Chief Strategic Advisor to Abbotsford Tech District, a proposed innovation district on Sumas Mountain, designed to help secure Abbotsford’s place as the agricultural technology and food security hub of BC. The project would see billions of dollars in private sector capital invested in Abbotsford over several decades. As an entrepreneur, executive, and advisor to decision-makers in large companies and organizations, Gavin has been involved with navigating some of the most complex and challenging commercial and political environments in Canada, with billions of dollars in investment and thousands of local jobs at stake. Gavin has a BA from UBC and an MBA from Oxford, where he wrote a thesis on social license, or how companies get permission from communities to do things. He serves on the boards of the Business Council of British Columbia and the Veterans Transition Network. Art and peace, and her experience working with both in the peace building field in Cambodia

Dona Park is a creative peacebuilding adviser for the organisation Women Peace Makers and an artist based in Abbotsford, BC but works extensively in Cambodia, South Korea, and the United States. She has led art initiatives working with ethnic minority communities in Cambodia and is currently developing an arts-based curriculum working with minority girls. Aside from her peacebuilding work, she uses her artistic expertise as an illustrator, pulling inspiration from her cross-cultural experiences traveling and living abroad. She has a BA in History and Fine Arts from Goshen College. |

About Trans Mountain: Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver nearly 300,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta and British Columbia, and 111 kilometres of pipeline in Washington state. The Trans Mountain Expansion Project will provide increased capacity to support Canadian crude oil production growth and ensure access to global energy markets. The largest project in the pipeline’s history, it involves installing approximately 980 kilometres of new pipeline, new and modified facilities including pump stations and terminals, and a new dock complex at the Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby, British Columbia. As a federal Crown corporation, Trans Mountain Corporation will continue to build upon Trans Mountain’s more than 65 years of experience delivering operational and safety excellence through our crude oil pipeline system. |

Rotary Youth Exchange

Each Rotary Exchange Student that participates ARE our future Rotarians, they understand the fundamental values of what Rotary Does; Peace, Community, Service. We need to invest and nurture these young people, encourage them to continue with Rotaract/ Rotary. Felicity Dye is the Chair of the Rotary Youth Exchange program for our District. She is a member of Rotary Club of Bellingham, and has been involved with Youth Exchange since 2014 when she was a Host Mom. As a host Mom, she became more interested in the program and was asked to join the District Committee. While her husband Curtis has been a Rotarian for 30 years, she was not- but that didn’t last long! Once again; Rotary Youth Exchange leads to Rotarians. |

She is currently coordinating the development of the new City of Abbotsford's Culture Strategy, expected to be completed in early 2021. This strategy will form the foundation for how the municipality will support cultural experiences and the heritage of Abbotsford over the next ten to fifteen years.
