It's a special Rotary meeting when a member's daughter is the guest speaker. Long-time Rotarian, Ken Funk, had the honour, along with all club members, of hosting his daughter, Kelly Rader. Kelly is the Executive Director of Inasmuch Community Society in Abbotsford, which welcomes and works with refugee claimants.

Our newest club recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow is Blaine Bailey, Director of Community Projects. Accepting the position a year ago, he had no idea that his first year would be such a busy one. Through tireless work and endless hours, Blaine responded to and rallied our club in meeting the needs of hundreds of fire (Lytton fire) and flood (Sumas Prairie flood) victims. The work continues.

Our club has pooled resources with Rotarians in Ontario and Nova Scotia to bring a small measure of relief to Sumas Prairie flood victims. The funds are being used to purchase $1000 gift cards for the purchase of building supplies and tools from a local business.
This week, another five residents were the recipients of these gift cards, and while they may not address all their financial challenges, hopefully they will provide some much needed hope and encouragement for moving forward.
The recipients have been identified for us by local Sumas Prairie volunteers. Making the presentations was club Director of Community Projects, Blaine Bailey.
A big shout out to our fellow Rotarians in central and eastern Canada. Your generosity has made a difference - Thank you!
