Update from the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce
Alex Mitchell- Chief Executive Officer
Passionate about the economic potential of the Fraser Valley, Alex leads the team at the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce where she works to ensure the voice of Abbotsford’s business community is heard at every level of government. She is a seasoned communicator and public affairs professional with a decade of combined communications, public affairs, and economic development expertise.
Prior to this, Alex was a Director with Hill + Knowlton Strategies, one of the world’s leading public relations agencies, where she provided leadership on crisis communications files, executed national media campaigns for some of the Country’s largest companies, and delivered strategic counsel for executive leaders on media relations and corporate reputation.
Alex has also held roles in the municipal economic development space with a focus on sector development in clean technology, agriculture, and ag-tech. Her work has also placed her across the Asia Pacific Region, across various levels of government and industry.
Alex holds an MBA from Simon Fraser University and a BA in political science from the University of British Columbia. She was a fellow in SFU Beedie School’s Social Innovation Lab (RADIUS), recognized by BC Business with the Top 30 Under 30 Award, and is a ’10 Weston Loran Scholar.
In her spare time, Alex is passionate about food and wine and hosts numerous events and tastings as a WSET certified sommelier (London Wine and Spirits Education Trust). She also serves on the Board of the Fraser Valley Child Development Centre, Tourism Abbotsford Society, and is proud to call Abbotsford home.
Amanda Thiessen- Member Experience & Operations Manager
Amanda Thiessen is the Member Experience & Operations Manager at the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, where she oversees daily operations and works to create an exceptional experience for more than 800 member businesses. Passionate about supporting local business, she is dedicated to helping Chamber members build meaningful connections, access valuable resources, and maximize the benefits of their membership. Amanda enjoys strengthening member engagement, improving processes, and developing programs and services that support a thriving business community.
Outside of the Chamber, Amanda is deeply involved in her community. She volunteers with the Abbotsford middle and secondary school music programs, helping to support fundraising efforts and ensure students continue to have access to meaningful musical opportunities. She also serves on the Sponsoring Committee for the local Air Cadet squadron and volunteers with the Abbotsford International Airshow. A proud mom of four, Amanda enjoys giving back to the community her family calls home and is committed to helping make Abbotsford a great place to live, work, and do business.
