Paul Harris Fellowships Awarded

Rotary Club of Abbotsford’s President, Stacey Irwin presented Tim Philips of Berry Hills Foods and Chris Dominato, VP of Finance of Woodtone Industries with the prestigious Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship Award. “I am so pleased to be able to be make these presentations on behalf of our club. Both Tim and Chris demonstrate the very “heart” of Rotary and are shining examples of good people who are contributing greatly to our community to help make our communities a better place for all to live.”

Nominated by Past President Sara Lawson, Tim Phillips of Berry Hill Foods is receiving this award in recognition of his ‘service above self’ approach to his work and giving back to community. Now as a newly adopted member of the Rotary Club of Abbotsford he and Berry Hill Foods are continuing to expand their commitment.

Chris Dominato VP of Finance at Woodtone Industries and the newest director on the Abbotsford Police Board was nominated by Past President Leslie McConnell and is equally deserving of this award exemplifying the spirit of giving, community involvement and representing an organization where giving back to community forms a big part of Woodtone’s corporate culture including being donors of a large Playhouse to help raise funds for the Starfish Pack Program to feed hungry school kids in Abbotsford.

Zone 24/32 Conference

Hello everyone,

First, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all that you have done or are doing for our organization. Just as our collective humanitarian efforts accomplish more than any of us could individually, it is the collective effort of all of you that allows our organization to operate year in and year out. We appreciate you.

Some of you receiving this are long time friends and acquaintances in Rotary. Some are relatively new. Some of you we have not yet had the privilege of working with. Regardless, we need each of you to consider the following.

September 20-22, 2018, we will be holding the first ever Zone 24/32 Conference. Oh, wait you say, we've had Rotary Institutes for years. Right you are. So, what's the difference? This event is open to ALL Rotarians. Past Officers, incoming officers, current officers, AG's, district Rotarians, club Rotarians. Everyone!

Why you might ask? It is our belief and experience that non-governor types get incredibly motivated, energized, and engaged when they can interact and engage with you who are more experienced and have a different knowledge base (possibly higher Rotary IQ) and skill set. We've seen it over and over. So now we're going to get intentional about it. We're eliminating the silos and allowing for and encouraging growth through collaboration.

That will only be successful if YOU are there. It doesn't matter how long ago you were Governor. We want you back. It doesn't matter how long it has been since you've been to a Zone event, we want to celebrate you. We stand on your shoulders. All of us do. Welcome back. Welcome home.

I am simply the Convener. There is an extraordinary team of people planning an outrageously exciting event. This is YOUR event.
So, go to:

https://portal.clubrunner.ca/50077/sitepage/2018-montreal-conference/conference-schedule
and see what the program looks like. Register and join us in Montreal.

Encourage others from your Governor's Council, District, and Clubs to join you.

We look forward to welcoming you to Montreal....and celebrating you.

Sincerely,
Jeffry Cadorette
Incoming Rotary International Director

Will you be on the bus?
On March 5th, our board voted unanimously in favour of partnering with our other Abbotsford Rotary clubs, the Chilliwack club, and potentially, several other clubs in a wheelchair project to Guatemala for 2019 and 2020. The proposed project is intended to resource a local manufacturer in Antigua, Guatemala to not only manufacture chairs, but also provide ongoing maintenance for chairs already distributed. The project’s ultimate goal is to build sustainability into the manufacturing of wheelchairs for a local Guatemala company. An integral part of this two-year project will be active participation by members of our club in 2020, as a way of marking our club’s 70th anniversary.

Start planning your vacation time now for early 2020. More details to come.
