Greetings fellow club members,

Our Board has confirmed that we will sponsor 2 candidates for each of the YAIL (Youth Adventures in Leadership) and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) programs in 2016.

In order to qualify for our club sponsorship the Board must approve the candidates in advance of submission to RYLA or YAIL. Any club member who wishes to nominate someone please do so by no later than November 25th for YAIL and December 31st for RYLA by sending me an email with the name, address and birthdate and your relationship to the candidate provided. (Family members welcome)

YAIL

The YAIL program for 15 to 17 year olds will be held January 22 to 24 at Camp Alexandra, 2016 McBride Ave Surrey. YAIL is a program offered by Rotary International.  All costs are paid by the sponsoring Rotary club. There is no cost to participants. Participating Rotary clubs range from Hope, BC to Everett, WA. It is expected that about 70 youth will participate.

YAIL will give participants insight into some of the basics of what it means, and takes, to be a leader: to create a well-rounded individual with increased perspective and enthusiasm for growth, who is able to make informed decisions For more information go to
www.yail.org

Registrations for YAIL will close December 31 but we need time to receive and approve candidates which is why our deadline to receive applications is Nov 25th.

RYLA

The RYLA program for young people aged 18 & 30 will be held May 12th to the 16th at Mt Baker Camp, Demming, Washington offering a fully equipped facility with dorms, presentation rooms, spectacular meals, spacious grounds & magnificent views of Mt. Baker. RYLA is a program offered by Rotary International.  Event costs are paid by the sponsoring Rotary club. Transportation costs to and from the event are the responsibility of the candidate. Participating Rotary clubs range from Hope, BC to Everett, WA and there will be a mix of male/female and American/Canadian youth attending.

RYLA offers the opportunity to participate in a four day, leadership camp with like-minded individuals where one can form lasting friendships, hear from professional speakers, develop as a leader, grow as a person and have fun! For more information go to http://ryla5050.org/

Registrations deadline for RYLA is not yet set but as it is a popular program we want to be sure we have applications in as early as possible so for that reason please make sure you submit your candidate information no later than December 31
st.

Thanks everyone,

David

Fellow Rotarians:

Our final community service opportunity for 2015 is approaching fast!

As in years past, our club supports Operation Red Nose and we are looking for volunteers to drive, chase, navigate or do call centre support.

We have been specifically asked by Operation Red Nose if we could consider volunteering as a club on either Sat Dec 5 or Sat Dec 12, as these are historically their busiest nights and they have the fewest volunteers signed up for those dates so far.

Remember that each shift worked counts as a club make-up and gets you a valuable Presidential “Get out of Jail” card from President Leslie.

This is a great evening of club fellowship, community service and the chance to support local young athletes and their families through Pacific Sport.

It’s also a very real way to give our community the very best Christmas present, preventing one more tragedy on our roads taking away a mother or father or child during the holidays.

You’ll laugh, you’ll groan, you’ll roll your eyes.  You’ll get invited to all the cool Christmas parties in town without having to bring a present.  You will have a great time with club members and you will make a difference.

Please respond DIRECTLY to Bruce Beck at bbb1771@shawbiz.ca  to indicate what night (or nights) you would be available to volunteer.

Hello Rotarian!

Our calendar fundraiser is well underway. A letter and sample of the calendar is available on your club website at www.abbotsfordrotary.com. Login and view under "club documents" in the "Rotaract" folder.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

All the best,

Phoenix MacLaren

President

Dear Rotarians,

We would like to update our club directory with your photo and bio as soon as possible. This is one of the ways our club can get to know you and really assists new and long-time members with who's who in our club.

Could the following Rotarians please send me a headshot photo in jpeg format:

Janet Barrie and Greg Buck

Could the following Rotarians please send me a bio about themselves via email (no more than 2000 characters and there are some great examples in our online directory to view):

Janet Barrie and Harvey Goodwin

Please send your photo and/or bio to Stacey Irwin at sirwin@prospera.ca. I will happily update the directory on your behalf.

Thank you.

Please forward your ideas and speaker contact details to the Rotary Program Committee. Your assistance would be appreciated to help schedule upcoming programs for this Rotary year.  Also, if there are suggestions to improve our programs, please let us know.
