Guatemala Mission, 2020 WELCOME HOME EVERYONE Update from Dave Loewen: Feb. 15th, 2020. Today was a full day of touring, thanks to the wonderful guiding of Judy Bergen of Love Guatemala, and her assistant Diego. We started with a tour of the Fire Department at Jocotenango, where we left a gift of medical supplies donated by one of our Rotarians in Abbotsford. We then visited the Genesis Project school, named in honour of Judy’s deceased husband, Philip Bergen. What a need for resources to deliver basic education. Presently, over 100 students are provided this gift through the voluntary leadership of Ricardo Aromas Genesis. From here it was on to the Mayan ruins at Tecpan, Iximche. The group was very quick to volunteer me as a “volunteer human sacrifice”. Alas, they had second thoughts and realized they could not do without me.
After lunch at a Swiss Restaurant (yes, it looks Swiss), we headed to see the two houses our club financed (one only half). Needless to say, their new houses have greatly improved their standard of living.Today was a full day of touring, thanks to the wonderful guiding of Judy Bergen of Love Guatemala, and her assistant Diego.
