The Don Funk Awards dinner will be held on Thursday November 19 at the Phoenix Lounge.

A very deserving member from our Club will be honoured that evening!  Come and celebrate with them.

Doors will open at 5pm for networking and dinner will be at 6:30pm.  Tickets are $35 per person and there will be a cash bar.

We need to let the hosting club know how many people will be attending so please let Andrea know (and pay) either Tuesday Nov 3rd or 10th.

Note: that there is an event at the Abbotsford Event Centre that night so it is advised to come at 5pm to avoid parking issues.

Our final community service opportunity for 2015 is approaching fast!

As in years past, our club supports Operation Red Nose and we are looking for volunteers to drive, chase, navigate or do call centre support.

We have been specifically asked by Operation Red Nose if we could consider volunteering as a club on either Sat Dec 5 or Sat Dec 12, as these are historically their busiest nights and they have the fewest volunteers signed up for those dates so far.

Remember that each shift worked counts as a club make-up and gets you a valuable Presidential “Get out of Jail” card from President Leslie.

This is a great evening of club fellowship, community service and the chance to support local young athletes and their families through Pacific Sport.

It’s also a very real way to give our community the very best Christmas present, preventing one more tragedy on our roads taking away a mother or father or child during the holidays.

You’ll laugh, you’ll groan, you’ll roll your eyes.  You’ll get invited to all the cool Christmas parties in town without having to bring a present.  You will have a great time with club members and you will make a difference.

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a series of fast-paced, interactive, one-day courses offered to refine a Rotarian's leadership skills and increase their base of knowledge in Rotary.  Courses are fun, topical, interactive, and geared toward busy business, professional and community leaders who want to be more effective leaders in their vocation and Rotary club and more knowledgeable Rotarians.  RLI is offered over 3 different sessions and at times a graduate course is offered.  Rotarians must take the sessions in order beginning with Session 1.

YAIL January 22-24, 2016
Youth Adventures In Leadership (YAIL) is open to youth between that ages of 15-17 and all costs are paid by a sponsoring Rotary Club. This three day leadership camp takes place at a facility near White Rock, BC. Participants learn how to become well rounded individuals with increased perspective and enthusiasm for growth who will be able to make informed decisions in their lives. Long lasting friendships are also made at the camp. Registration is open now at www.yail.org

2016 District Grant Seminar Registration is now open- (February 6 OR February 20)

Every club in District 5050 wishing to apply for matching grants for service projects (both local and international) is required by Rotary International to qualify by having members attend a Grants Seminar every year.
 

Topics included will be Purpose, Grant Management, Successful Grant Projects, Stewardship, Qualification, Designing a Project, Applying for and Implementing a Grant, Oversight and Reporting, and Memorandum of Understanding. Attendees will learn about District Designated Funds, District Grants, Global Grants and Packaged Grants.

A minimum of two people from each club must attend a Grants Management Seminar, and one of these must be the President-Elect.  There will be two seminars and both seminars will cover the same format, and club members may choose either one to attend. 
 

Each club shall have the option of sending a third person. If a club wishes to send more than three, please contact District Foundation Chair Larry Jubie at lwjubie31@hotmail.com

Doors will be open at 8:00 a.m. with registration at 8:30 a.m. and the seminar is scheduled to run no later than 3:00 p.m. Lunch is included.

Abbotsford Community Foundation is holding its annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon on Tuesday, November 17 at Cascade Community Church.  (There is no Rotary lunch meeting on Nov. 17 because of the Don Funk Awards Dinner on Nov. 19). The theme this year is “Celebrating Volunteers” with guest panelists Larry Stinson, Q.C. Past District 5050 Governor, Rod Santiago, Executive Director, Abbotsford Community Services and Stan Petersen, Vice President Abbotsford 2016 Summer Games.

The first Alan & Vivian Trethewey Youth Philanthropy Award will be presented at the Luncheon.  Tickets are $50 each or $350 for a table of 8.  If 8 members of our Rotary club want to attend you can save money by booking a table.

The Rotary Club of Langley Central will be holding the 26th Annual Wine Festival on November 7th 2015 at the Willowbrook Shopping Center. This has become the biggest social event to be held in Langley with ticket sales expected to reach 1000. Last year was a landmark event with the celebration of the 25th Anniversary. This year our goal is to reach $1,000,000 in total gifts to the community. We need $75,000 to reach that goal. Will we do it ..... you bet we will. 

Last year was a sell out, tickets are available online at www.fvwf.ca   

$1200 per table or $150 per ticket is eligible for a tax receipt.
