Sustainable Mobility Project in Guatemala

This club joined with six other clubs in securing a Rotary International Grant, totalling $263,000.00 (US), which is being applied through the work of Transitions in Antigua, Guatemala. Transitions manufactures custom-made wheelchairs and prosthetics to address the dire needs of physically disabled Guatemalans throughout the country.
The project is designed to work at disease prevention as well as treatment, and to produce sustainable, measurable outcomes.

Guatemala Mission Focused on Transitions Foundation in Antigua

The Abbotsford Rotary Club sent a team to Antigua, Guatemala, in February 2020, where they participated in a variety of project activities, including wheelchair assembly, dental care, and house construction. The Abbotsford club has donated about $40,000 (Cdn.) over the last two years to a wheelchair manufacturing initiative through the Transitions Foundation in Antigua.

Malawi Student Provided with a Fully-Funded, 4-Year Scholarship

Lucy, who would not have the opportunity to an education were it not for donors such as Rotary. Our club sponsored her 4-year program, which included books, clothes, food & lodging.

Million Dollar Hole in One Supports The Holmberg House

The Million Dollar Hole in One event in 2014 raised over $85,000 for the Abbotsford Hospice to build Holmberg House which supports the philosophy "Supporting the Process of Life". The home will be designed to express the ideals of the numerous support services with features and design elements to create a comforting complementary care setting that embodies the universal characteristics of hospice care. In addition, several other local charities benefited as well from this event.

The Salvation Army's Meal Centre

Together the Rotary Club of Abbotsford and Rotary Foundation donated $6,000 to purchase and install a 40 gallon commercial soup and pot heating system. The upgraded system will assist in feeding the 150+ guests who visit the Meal Centre every day for lunch.

Abbotsford Youth Commission

The Abbotsford Youth Commission gratefully accepted funding from the Rotary Club of Abbotsford to allow them to pursue their focus on YES (Youth Engaged in Service). This program is all about service to the community and engages our youth to give back by helping to fundraise and volunteer.

Epilepsy Education Book

Elementary schools in Abbotsford will have the opportunity to educate children about epilepsy thanks to the donation of $25,000 from the Rotary Club of Abbotsford to develop an information book on epilepsy with the story line and artwork done by students.

History Minutes

The Reach Gallery Museum, a UFV History student and funding provided by the Rotary Club of Abbotsford together created 6 one-minute vignettes called "Reach History Minutes". Research gathered from the Reach Gallery Museum helped to develop each Reach Minute.

Starfish Pack Program

The Abbotsford Rotary Club, working together with the Abbotsford Food Bank, local businesses and faith based organizations, provides a backpacks to elementary school children every Friday containing well balanced meals to get them through the weekend. These children come from low income and working poor families, and often the only meal they receive during the week is the school lunch or breakfast program. The Starfish Pack Program provides a vital link to keep local children from going hungry.

The Campus of Care

The Rotary Club of Abbotsford was able to donate $25,000 to the Campus of Care in Abbotsford which includes Abbotsford Hospice, Canuck Place, and Matthew's House. Proceeds from the 2012 Million Dollar Hole in One event went to an amazing cause. Thank you participants, sponors and prize donors!

Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre

Donated $200,000 to the new Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre to purchase equipment and furnishings for the children's wing and pavilion.

Rotaplast Mission to Cebu, Philippines

The Rotary Club of Abbotsford sponsored and participated in a $80,000 Rotaplast mission to Cebu in November 2007. This mission helped to provide free reconstructive operations and treatment of children born with cleft lips or palates.

Spa Park Primary School in South Africa Project

In 2004-2005, the Abbotsford Rotary Club provided a grant to the Spa Park Primary School in Warmbaths, South Africa. The school is located in a poor and disadvantaged community with an enrolment of 610 students and 10 educators.  This grant was used to provide the school with necessary sport equipment and educational aids.  This project was co-funded by the Rotary Club of Warmbaths who have already contributed enormously to the improvement of the school.

Nhan Hoa School in Vietnam Project

In 2003, the Abbotsford Rotary Club provided a grant to the Nhan Hoa School for the Handicapped in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This grant was used to provide computer and vocational training equipment.  In Vietnam, where discrimination against the handicapped is rampant, these students are trained and are now able to become self-sufficient to help support their families and community. Today an average of 35 students complete this training offered every semester.  

The Coin-Spiracy Project

Provided $20,000 in financial support to assist the Kind Acts of BC in producing their 2003-2004 video, to engage schools and youth groups in creating positive global change.

Rotary Stadium

Rotary Stadium, a $3,000,000 sports and entertainment facility.

Rotary House

Capital funding of Rotary House, a learning facility for mentally and physically challenged pre-school children.

Abbotsford/Matsqui Impact Society

Financial support of $50,000 to the Abbotsford/Matsqui Impact Society, a peer counseling substance abuse program.

Rotary Bursary Fund

Creation of perpetual Rotary Bursary fund of $230,000 for graduates of public and private education institutions within Abbotsford.

Tin Can Compactor

Donation of $11,000 to Community Services for the acquisition of a new tin can compactor.

Operation Eyesight

Participation every year in Operation Eyesight International, a program for cataract operations in India.

Hospital Equipment

Provision of more than 50 containers of hospital equipment and books to countries where people are in need.

MSA Hospital

Provision of laproscopic equipment to the MSA Hospital.

Search and Rescue

Provision of a boat for Fraser Valley Search and Rescue .

Abbotsford Hospice Society

A three-year commitment to the Abbotsford Hospice Society to assist in retiring their mortgage up to $200,000.

MCC Recycling Truck

Donation of $12,000 to MCC for purchase of a recycling truck.
